What is the reasoning behind:

community service
Judges use community service to give a lesson to an offender. They give a chance to such a person to repay for what she or he has done and repair the harm. It is usually used for writing graffiti on walls. A perpetrator is ordered to wipe the walls and remove the graffiti. Not only the graffiti which he has caused, but also other people’s, just to give such a person a lesson in the hope that he will understand the harm.

Tagging
This is used for people who committed a serious crime, but not serious enough to go to prison. The idea is to confine such a person to one place, so that he can’t be at large; he has to stay in one place to repay for what he did. It is used for poeple who don't pose a threat to others.

Death penalty
Death penalty is the most serious punishment, it is used for the most serious crimes and felonies. A criminal is killed in some way, for example by hanging (by being hanged ??). It is still used in some countries, but abolished in civilized countries and replaced with life imprisonment

Corporal punishment
It is not used in European countries. It was used in the past, usually in public to discourage potential criminals and dissuade them from committing a similar crime.

W Stanach jest kara śmierci.
To zdanie mi mowi ze ci ktorzy sa skazani na community service bazgrają po ścianach. Możliwe że się mylę;)

Nie we wszystkich stanach :) (zatem muszę dopisać: In some states in the USA the death penalty still applies.)
