Subject: Modernization of the four-inlet junction in Łowicz

The main purpose of the project is to increase the capacity of the intersection that is located in the focal area of Łowicz. This junction is a place where two national roads and one local road (leading to the biggest supermarket in the city, fuel station and cementary) intersect. In place of existing junction was proposed a two-lane traffic circle. This solution can help reducing traffic jams that are mainly formed during the pick hours as well as improving the safety of road users. Furthermore, this type of junction is an interesting model of social movement and is full of assets. The calculations and analyses shows that traffic circle afford 150% greater throughput. At the designed circle are ideal traffic conditions, these results give confidence that congestion will not appear, even at a higher than normal amount of traffic. Moreover, traffic on the junction becomes more fluent and smarter. The project proposes to create an additional pedestrian crossings which also improve pedestrian traffic and reduce the waiting time for passage through the intersection. The project also includes resurfacing the roadway.
