Contemporary world is full of different dangers. We are constantly threatened by violent acts of others. When you watch or listen to the news, you learn about thousands of innocent people killed every single day. However, people die not only on the wars. There are many diseases, which kill them as well. The worst of them seems to be AIDS. In a short period of time, it became the real international epidemic.
Aids is a disease, which seriously weakens body's natural immune system. This very disease is doesn't cause the death itself, but it makes the body unable to defend itself from any sickness. When you have Aids, even the flu or cold may cause your death.
The scientists from the entire world have been working on discovering the cure against Aids. They managed to establish that the virus invades cells of the body and destroys them by coping the virus to the cell's genetic code. An invaded cell dies and the virus may multiply and kill the next one.
There exist many stereotypes concerning Aids. Many people think that they may get infected by touching a sick person or by living near him/her. They don't want to work or go to school with people having Aids. Their fears cannot be explained rationally. It is impossible to get infected with the virus without having contact with the person's blood. There are thousands of people, who look after the sick people and they stay healthy. It seems very important to educate people about Aids and help them understand, how difficult is it to live with this disease. We have to believe, that soon the cure for Aids will be found.
Furthermore, this disease will be a growing problem for people all around the world, unless we start to understand the nature of it. Ordinary people know very little about AIDS. Some even think that AIDS is the punishment, which affects bad people only. There should be stronger international campaign informing all people abou the nature of this disease. It may not only stop the spreading of the disease, but also change the attitude of many people towards those, who are ill. There is no denying that AIDS became one of the mot serious problems nowadays. As we have no good medicines for it, we can only help those, who suffer from it. And, in my opinion, we all should work to help them.
