He is said to + infinitve

Hi guys!

Here's an example sentence:
He was a sales clerk when he was at university.

Then I want to rewrite that using 'he is said to' but I'm not sure if the sentence below is correct:

He is said to have been a sales clerk when he was at university.

What about that:

He was driving too fast - He is believed to be driving too fast? Is that good?

Thanks
said to have been - ok

he is believed to be driving too fast = it is believed that he IS driving too fast.
Okay, thanks mg.

So, how can I express a past event? I want to say 'he was driving too fast'?
try
I think I made a fool of myself. It's an analogical to 'was/have been', isn't it?

So, it will be...

He was driving too fast - He is reported to have been driving too fast.
an analogy
ok
