Even though a lot of American teachers do all they can to increase a level of students’ writing skills, young people do not want to learn and grow up without this basic knowledge. One of the reasons of such situation is teaching spelling and grammar out of context. To stop this situation teachers are organizing special writing courses and they try to spread the practice in writing essays into every subject.
Studies show that very small part of students’ assignments is dedicated to short writing and teachers give marks only for grammar and spelling mistakes.
Thanks to these studies a lot of schools pay more attention to writing process; even in upper kindergarten such kind of exercises are appearing.
