A: Present your problem/dilemma to your friend and ask him/her for advice:

You have been invited to meet your new boyfriend’s/girlfriend’s parents next weekend. This means going away for the weekend (It is a four-hour train journey to get to your new boyfriend’s/girlfriend’s parents’ house). You really want to go, but you have a very important exam next week and you should really spend the weekend studying for it. You think you haven’t done enough studying for the exam – you won’t pass if you don’t study more. On the other hand, you don’t want to offend your new boyfriend/girlfriend and his/her parents.

B: Listen to your friend’s problem/dilemma and try to help. You know the following things about your friend:

-your friend is a really good student
-your friend is doing well on his/her course
-he/she always gets good marks
-your friend works too hard; he/she needs to get out more
-he/she is fairly serious about his/her new boyfriend/girlfriend
