I have a sneaking suspiction that Mr Oldman is not exactly who he claims to be...
Not that I want to get into any arguments about his identity, but I would like to clarify two things:
1. All written Cambridge ESOL papers are checked in England, so it is more than unlikely that Mr Oldman, living in Melbourne, was a marker for any of the exams he mentions.
2. Cambridge ESOL maintains exactly the same standards of checking the papers, so that there is no possibility of certain examiners/markers being more severe than others, and some papers being checked more carefully that others.
I would also like to thank Pocahontas for her commonsensical approach. :)
Best regards,
Monika Chilewicz
PS I suppose it would be more appropriate to use the word \'origin\' in relation to one\'s home city, instead of \'derivation\' which, by definition, usually refers to words and phrases :)
