Rebuilding the nest
The first nest I builded, was in '90 years.
It was in Magura National Park when I found the Lesser spotted eagle's cheeck on the ground.
It was covered by fresh sticks.
It looks like the nest was built on the ground.
I was there before and I knew that it was on the tree.
It was obvious that this nest dropped.
We borrowed from local people the wire and pliers...
...and rebuilded the nest on the place where it was before.
So we could put the Lesser spotted eagle's chick to this nest.
The young spotted eagle grew up and left the nest in the proper time.
Today it is warmer then before.
...I hope this tree will not bursts. It's a lot of work...
If it hasn't bursted through this years, it won't now.
Maybe we should strap it
The eight nests dropped in the 2017 year.
It happened before the end of the brood. So the chicks died.
That's why we are rebuilding the nests now.
We rebuilded one of them in Magura National Park yesterday.
Today another one...
...and we are going to do the next five nests soon.
It is not doing nest instead bird...
...but helping them.
Birds have the base to build the rest of the nest with fresh sticks.
After year of two, such nest looks like a natural one.
In the begining of '90 I did it by myself.
I teach youngest ornitologists to build the nests.
They climb the trees willingly and do this skilfully.
It is a great satisfaction for me to know that my work will be continued.
It is some work to do.
You have to climb the tree and know how to do it.
It is not for everyone.
We like the nature, birds...
...challenge. So we did it.
I hope the success will confirm in the next year.
The Beskid Niski Mountains is a part of the European Ecological Network Natura 2000
It is a Special Protection Area Beskid Niski.
The refuge was created for the protection of significant birds such as Lesser spotted eagle.
Population of this birds was estimated on 16[tel]pairs at the end of XX century.
However there are less and less Lesser spotted eagles in the last time.
I have researched this species and turned out that 40 pairs had vanished.
So there are 160 pairs of Lesser spotted eagles now.
We try to maintain them.
Except that we rebuild the nest and also mow meadow...
...to create good place to prey and we educate people in the region as well.
It is important to help birds in searching prey in open areas.
When the meadows are not mowing, birds can't catch the vole or amphibian.
We use a natural materials to build the nests.
Not boards or stakes.
We break the sticks on the fir on which was the nest.
And then plait the nest which became the same as natural one.
A rod is put at the bottom because sticks will rot after some time...
...so the nest could fall.
The solid base is guarantee the nest will be there fot several years or decades.
The nest was rebuilded in place where the natural one was before.
The fir was choosen by the Lesser spotted eagles.
We did not look for crooked or straight tree.
It is a great view from the nest.
If you have the opportunity to sit there, 25 meters up on the fir ...
... you will see the world in a different way.
I tried to do this the most similar to natural one,
...durable to be sure it will not fall down.
It took circa about 2,5 hours.
My colleagues were helping me, gaving tools and natural materials from the wood.
We will see in the next year if our work is succeed.
We hope it is a succeed.
