Hi Tom,
I'm writing in reply to your last letter. You've asked me about a book in English I can recommend to your father.
I've recently read “Company man”, an absolutely exciting thriller of Joseph Finder. This is his another (after “Paranoia”) excellent book.
The plot tells the story of Nick Conover, a young director of Stratton Corporation, who has fired over 5000 employees recently. Most people in the small town hate him, including the person who has been breaking into his mansion and scribbling "No Hiding Place" on the walls. One night, Nick catches the house-breaker in Conovers’ garden. Panicking, he shoots the man dead. Under influence of his friend, he covers up the crime. He feels woeful, but does not want to be caught. As the plot develops we follow the man who is full of uncertainty, fear and the feeling of guilt.
The novel’s plot is extremely absorbing. Admittedly, there are not as much twists as I’ve expected, but the book really keeps you in suspense to the very end. I had huge problems with leaving the book to have some sleep.
Of course, this is only short summary of the book. If your father is looking for a novel with an exciting story line, he would definitely enjoy this one. Please let me know, whether he liked it.
Yours sincerely,
XYZ
