Agree with Eve 100 per cent.
Quote ,“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking. “unquote.
But wait a second , whenever one is becoming an open-minded individualist regardless of the field he’s into ,he is greeted with scorning and mocking. Why is that ? See b) on Eve’s list.
Btw , Voltaire did time twice through “the sharpness of his pen” but thus we got the man who fits(still) no stereotype and overstepped the boundaries of what was long regarded as politically and culturally correct. No doubt “hardships” may only trigger someone’s ability to evolve into such individual. Now we have a couple of “the nine days’ wonders” here and there , may be except for Stephen Hawking in theoretical physics. Those who don’t like to put a certain amount of effort into some research or ponder in solitude are doomed to going through their lives in blissful ingnorance.
But may be it’s ok . I don’t know. If they’re happy about it and find this way easier to get along why they should do otherwise ?
P.S. It’s me , not Voltaire who wrote this ok.
