It is said that history is a teacher of life and therefore it should be looked after. In fact, it is unquestionable that it is the government's task to take care of cultural heritage of a country lest it fall into oblivion. In this essay I will concentrate on two of the measures which the government should implement to ensure preservation of national heritage.
Initially, the importance of cultural heritage for a nation is often unreasonably undermined as though it was forgotten that the heritage creates a nation with all of its characteristics and eccentricities. Not only does it shape our behaviour, but it also facilitates the process of unification as we become aware of our shared past. Despite all of that, cultural heritage is too often presented as rather unappealing to young people, consequently rendering them uninterested in this matter.
Nevertheless, this may be soon changed if the government increases the money spent on renovations of old building, too many of which have been left in derelict. They are witnesses of the past and as soon as they recoup their previous luster, they may speak volumes in favour of fostering cultural heritage. It is true, however, that renovations in addition to maintenance are expensive and people are concerned that money should be spent more important issues.
In conclusion, no one can deny the importance of cultural heritage, but still few acknowledge the fact that the government has to do more in order to cultivate it. In my opinion, the increase of money devoted specifically to renovations of old building is dependent on how the society perceive and value cultural heritage. Hence, more should be done in terms of education of people about the the significance of nurturing their shared heritage.
