Dlaczego past simple a nie continuous

Dzisiaj na Instagramie spotkałam posta gdzie dziewczyna opisywała zdjęcie psa pisząc:

When you have no job, no responsibilities, but you barked for a bird for an hour and it drained you.

Od razu zwróciłam uwagę na użycie "barked", dlaczego użyła past simple a nie past continuous skoro pies szczekał przez godzinę w przeszłości i jest wzmianka że przez godzinę? Czy gdyby napisać że was barking for an hour to byłoby źle?

podobnie np. i slept for six hours, a po polsku 'spalem', a jednak nie 'was sleeping' po angielsku

What does the dog in the picture look like?
(1) Is it washed out but still barking?
(2) Is it done barking and looking really pooped?

If (2) is true, the simple past is due, because it suggests the dog’s job done. If (1) is true, the past continuous would be better, because the dog’s job is potentially not done yet.

An aside: It’s the host who welcomes a guest. Never, I repeat NEVER, the other way around.

(1) is Present Perfect Progressive a no-no?
